Chlorinated rubber

Chlorinated rubber refers to the chlorinated product of natural rubber. The general structural formula of the mixture of trichloride and tetrachloride containing 65% chlorine is [C10H11Cl7] N. Chlorinated rubber has good compatibility with alkyd resin with similar linear low polarity. Generally, alkyd resin with more than 54% fatty acid has better compatibility with chlorinated rubber in aromatic diluent. The introduction of chlorinated rubber can improve toughness, adhesion, solvent resistance, acid and alkali resistance, water resistance, salt spray resistance, wear resistance, etc., and increase the dryness of the film and reduce dust adhesion. It is mainly used for concrete floor paint, swimming pool paint and highway scribing.

Purpose

Chlorinated rubber is rarely used for extrusion or molded products. Its main use is to classify different models according to the relative molecular weight or viscosity. It is applicable to inks, coatings and adhesives. Generally, low viscosity (0.01Pa • s) products are mainly used as ink additives; Medium viscosity (0.01~0.03Pa • s) products are mainly used to prepare coatings; High viscosity (0.1t~0.3Pa • s) products are mainly used to manufacture adhesives. According to the actual application at home and abroad, they are mainly used for medium viscosity products of coatings. The main application fields in coatings are road marking paint, ship paint, container paint, architectural paint, swimming pool paint, flame retardant paint, etc.

Road marking paint, also known as road marking paint, is a special application field of chlorinated rubber. The coating based on chlorinated rubber is wear-resistant, fast drying and eye-catching on concrete and asphalt pavement. They have excellent adhesive properties and can withstand the effects of chemicals and abrasives used in snowy days and when there is a thin layer of ice on the ground. In the UK, it has been stipulated that chlorinated rubber must be used to mark airports.

In addition, due to the high chlorine content, chlorinated rubber will not burn. Therefore, it is a valuable raw material for making fireproof and anti-corrosion paint. This paint has been widely used in petroleum refineries. In terms of adhesives, chlorinated rubber is basically not used as an independent film-forming agent, but as a modified additive. Used to improve the properties of adhesives such as neoprene, nitrile rubber and polyurethane. Modified with chlorinated rubber can make these adhesives more versatile. Chlorinated rubber in the United States is mainly used for coatings, among which road marking paint accounts for 46%, which is different in other countries. 60% of their chlorinated rubber paint is used for ship paint. Chlorinated rubber in China is mainly used in ship paint, road marking paint, container paint, ink additive, outdoor tank paint, building paint and adhesive, etc.

Application

Chlorinated rubber is made by dissolving plasticized natural rubber in carbon tetrachloride or dichloroethane and reacting with dry chlorine under the action of catalyst.

Chlorinated rubber is not rubber like, but dendritic, with a relative density of 1.5~` 1.7. It softens and decomposes at 135~140 ℃, and can be soluble in benzene, toluene, xylene, benzene tetrachloride, ethyl acetate, etc. to form a relatively stable solution with appropriate viscosity.

Chlorinated rubber has the characteristics of aging resistance, acid resistance, alkali resistance, seawater resistance, non combustion, etc. The adhesive prepared with it can be used for bonding rubber with metal, leather, wood, fabric, etc. Chlorinated rubber can also be used as modifier to modify neoprene rubber, which can improve bonding strength, high temperature creep and other properties. With the increase of the film cohesion of the neoprene adhesive, the bonding performance is enhanced. The adhesion to hard PVC is nearly 10 times higher than that of unmodified neoprene adhesive.
